How long does it take to get a US visa in South Africa?
Getting a US visa in South Africa involves appointment wait times (which can be months) plus processing time (typically 3-10 days after interview), so apply at least 3 months ahead, checking current waits for Johannesburg (e.g., ~104 days), Cape Town (~120 days), and Durban (~100 days) on the U.S. Department of State's website. After a potentially long wait for an interview slot, the actual visa processing post-interview is usually quick (days) unless extra administrative checks are needed, which can add weeks or months.
What is a red flag in a US visa?
Saying you're applying for a tourist visa but mentioning plans for a business meeting or training. Giving vague responses like “I just want to travel for a few months” without a concrete itinerary.
What not to say to an immigration officer?
6 Things You Should Never Say to Immigration Officers — and the Risks if You Do
“I Don't Know Where I Am Staying”
“I Am Here to Work” (Without a Work Visa)
“I'm Visiting a Friend I Met Online”
“I Don't Have a Return Ticket”
“I'll Figure Things Out Once I'm There”
Joking About Drugs, Bombs, or Crime.
Why do visitor visas get rejected?
Most UK Visitor Visa refusals happen because applicants fail to prove they will return to their home country, not because of weak travel plans. Strong home ties—such as employment, property, dependants, and long-term commitments—are essential for approval.
How much bank balance is required for a visitor visa?
There is no fixed financial eligibility requirement or minimum amount of money that a visitor must have to enter the UK on a Standard Visitor visa. However, you must be able to demonstrate that you have enough funds to support yourself during your stay without working or accessing public funds.
